Thats exactly what a heat recovery unit does The heat recovery unit is installed in the hot line of the heat pumps refrigerant circuit. The hot vapor flows through a heat exchanger. The heat from the vapor is then absorbed by the water, which is circulated through the heat exchanger by a small pump. This gives you inexpensive hot water. Controls keep everything operating properly. In the summer, the heat recovery unit captures some of the heat discharged by the air conditioner, essentially giving you free hot water.
